How to Scan and Look Up Barcodes in 3 Steps

  1. Select Camera or Image Mode: Enable your device camera for real-time laser guidance scanning, or click "Upload Image" to inspect a product photo.
  2. Align Barcode Horizontally: Position the barcode parallel to the scan frame. The decoder checks optical black bar transitions across a 1D raster scanline.
  3. Instant Lookup & Verification: Once decoded with an audio beep confirmation, copy the raw GTIN/SKU number, look it up on Google, or query Amazon pricing directly.

Tips for Accurate Optical Barcode Scanning

Linear barcodes rely on the precise ratio of alternating dark bars and light spaces. Follow these best practices for fast first-pass decoding:

  • Keep Horizontal Alignment: Unlike 2D QR codes which scan at any rotation, 1D barcodes decode fastest when aligned horizontally across the camera viewport.
  • Avoid Curved Distortions: When scanning cans, bottles, or tubes, hold the container vertically so the barcode stripes run flat along the curvature.
  • Ensure Adequate Illumination: Low lighting introduces sensor noise in webcams. Position a standard desk lamp or turn on your mobile flashlight to maximize bar contrast.
